OCILLA, GA – The Ben Hill County man arrested Wednesday on rape charges in Ocilla has been cleared.

Investigators say after they arrested 28-year-old William Smith, the woman who accused him of rape was re-interviewed and admitted that the two engaged in consensual sex.

Smith also told detectives that he was innocent and the sex was consensual between the two.

The accuser had told officers she had been followed from a Flash Floods gas station to her home where she claimed to have been sexually assaulted.

Smith was released from the Irwin County Jail and is no longer facing any charged.

According to investigators charges could be filed against the accuser.
