August 15, 2012 Uncategorized No Comments

The American Heart Association recognizes South Georgia Medical Center for its treatment of stroke patients.

South Georgia has one of the highest stroke rates in the U.S.

The Valdosta hospital received the bronze stoke award for completing 90 days of outstanding care within the Heart Association’s stroke treatment guidelines.

“We’re very proud to have gotten this recognition and we expect that going forward we’re going to get more recognition for similar things, there’s a silver award and it already looks like we’re on track to receive that award later this year,” said Dr. Brian Dawson, SGMC Stroke Program Director.

Dr. Brian Dawson says in the first year of the program, the hospital has treated almost 400 stroke patients.

He says South Georgia Medical Center is in the top two percent of hospitals in the country for meeting stroke treatment guidelines.
